Sportsmanship

As Director of the SIJHSAA I would like to remind all players, coaches, administrators, and fans of appropriate sportsmanship at our SIJHSAA Events.

By Law - Article VIII: Sportsmanship - Section 1:  The SIJHSAA provides opportunities for athletic competition for grade school students.  We do so with the intent of enhancing their educational experiences and hopefully instilling them positive qualities in the areas of integrity, sportsmanship, responsibility, and competition.

By Law - Article IV: Contests - Section 6: During all Regional and State contests the SIJHSAA prohibits the use of all types of noise-makers, confetti, radios, shakers, rally towels, thunder sticks, camera lights, laser lights, and also tripods in the stands.  Signs must be no larger than a legal sized sheet of paper.(8 1/2 X 14)  Body painting materials shall not be administered at games or containers brought on game sites.  Body paint may be worn on arms and the face.  Appropriate shirts must be worn to all events.  Bands are limited to the National Anthem.  They are not used to give a home game atmosphere nor to create noise or to rally the fans.

By Law - Article VIII:  Sportsmanship - Section 2:  Any coach ejected from a SIJHSAA contest shall not be permitted to attend the next interscholastic contest at that level (jv/varsity) of competition, or any other SIJHSAA interscholastic contests at any level in the interim. During a suspension coaches may not attend contests or travel with the team to and from contests from which sport they are suspended.  Any fan ejected  from a SIJHSAA contest shall not be permitted to attend the next 2 interscholastic contests at that level (jv/varsity) of competition, or any other SIJHSAA interscholastic contests at any level in the interim.  Additional penalties may be assessed by the school and/or the SIJHSAA.

By Law - Article VIII:  Sportsmanship - Section 3:  Any player ejected from a SIJHSAA contest shall not be permitted to participate in the next interscholastic contest at that level (jv/varisty) of competition, or any other SIJHSAA interscholastic contests at any level in the interim.  During a suspension players may attend contests and travel with the team to and from contest from which sport they are suspended.  The player may sit on the bench in street clothes(not in uniform) while in attendance.  Additional penalties may be assessed by the school and/or the SIJHSAA.

Rick Franklin Coaching Longevity Award

Dear SIJHSAA Member School AD's:

Beginning with this year, the SIJHSAA will be giving out the Rick Franklin Longevity Award.  The Rick Franklin Longevity Award is an award that recognizes coaches that have been coaching for at least 20 years in the same district.  Schools will be able to honor coaches 5 years retroactive from this year.   (That means coaches that have retired within the last 5 years may be honored) Please check out the criteria to see if your applicant qualifies.  If your applicant meets all of the criteria, fill out the form and follow the instructions on the form.

The award will be sent to the school and the school can decide how they want to present the award.  For example, at halftime of a basketball game or at a school board meeting just to name a couple.  Please realize that after filling out the form, confirming the information, sending it to our trophy provider, and sending it to your school, can take a little time.  So have this in mind when you are giving the award.

Also, the SIJHSAA would like pictures taken of the award presentation and e-mailed to Geff Purcell (geff@americana.com) and Greg Hale (sijhsaa@gmail.com) so we can put them on our website. (Please ID your pictures)
