*The Girls and Boys Track State Series has been canceled (As of Wednesday, April 15, 2020)

The decision to cancel was very difficult, but the factors of school not being in session, availibility of regional host sites, and governmental restrictions have made it too difficult to proceed with the track state series.  The health and safety of all is of the utmost importance to the SIJHSAA.

Jim Burnes Awards Banquet canceled on Friday, May 8, 2020. ( As Wednesday, April 15, 2020)

Award winners will be announced soon.  Award winners plaques will be sent to their home school.  All that were nominated will receive certificates sent to their home school.

Announcement Related to the Girls and Boys Golf State Series (as of Monday, March 30, 2020)

The 2020 Girls and Boys Golf State Series has been canceled.

The decision to cancel the Girls and Boys Golf State Series was very difficult.  Several factors have been taken into consideration to reach this decision.  Some of these factors are too difficult to overcome in order to continue with this state series. (increasing number of non-attendance days by member schools, variability in state host availability, variability in regional host availability, difficulty in obtaining workers at the regional and state level, and state mandates on events with more than 250 individuals)

(As of Saturday, March 21 / Dealing with Girls and Boys Bowling & Volleyball)

The SIJHSAA continues to monitor the recommendations of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Illinois State Board of Educaiton, and the Governor's Office as it relates to coronavirus (COVID-19).  The SIJHSAA will be taking precautions as needed dealing with the coronavirus (COVID-19).   In the last 24 hours the views and perspectives on the virus, its spread and containment, require that the SIJHSAA re-evaluate what we can do to balance the member school interests, the efforts of the student-athletes, families and coaches/directors, with our responsibilities as State Citizens.  The SIJHSAA is doing its best with a rapidly changing situation.  The following updates are provided for the sports of Girls and Boys Bowling and Volleyball.

*Girls and Boys Bowling:  The Girls and Boys Bowling State Series have been
canceled and will not be rescheduled.

*Volleyball:  The Volleyball State Series has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Listed are the factors that were too difficult to overcome in order to continue the above mentioned state series:

*The increasing number of schools who are closing for an extended period of time.
*The variability in state host availability.
*Scheduled spring breaks and extended spring breaks.
*Governor Pritzker's mandate to cancel non essential events dealing with more than 250
individuals.
*Multiple state high school associations across the country (including the IHSA) have canceled their remaining winter state series.

The decisions are not being made lightly.  The SIJHSAA will be communicating with state final hosts, regional hosts, vendors, participating schools, and officials as we consider rescheduling on different dates.  We will also be monitoring all updated information
regarding the spread of the coronavirus.  Some factors such as facilities, dates, etc. must be taken into considerations as we make a decision if, when, and how we can complete both the Girls and Boys Bowling and Volleyball State Series.  Some schools have notified my office that their districts are cancelling all extracurricular activities for an extended period of time and or may not host any indoor activities at their school.

This type of developing situation will no doubt leave our athletes, member schools, and families with many questions.  This is indeed unprecendented not only for the SIJHSAA, but many other organizations across the country.  The SIJHSAA apreciates your patience and appologize for the inconvenience.  Member schools will be notified when additional information is available.
