Your REPUTATION can be made, or even destroyed, in a moment. Your CHARACTER is developed over a lifetime.
The Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association is one of two governing bodies of junior high sports in the state of Illinois. The SIJHSAA was founded in 1921 and its first championship competition held was in basketball in 1928. The tourney was held in DuQuoin with Herrin winning the first championship. WE HAVE ALMOST EXACTLY HALF OF THE 174 MEMBERS' CARDS IN. Things will be hectic and happening fast once we get back in session at school. Please try to get the duess/fees taken card of that first couple weeks so we can get volleyball set up..
ANYONE whom is ejected from one of our contests shall not attend the next contest as stated in our ByLaws. Their home school may impose additional penalties if it's administration wishes to do so.
Our association has not adopted the IHSA's rule stating the home uniform must be white. WE STILL STAND BY THE OLD RULE OF THE HOME TEAM WEARING 'LIGHT' COLORED UNIFORMS, ESPECIALLY THE JERSEY.
All rebounders lined up for freethrows will be moved one space closer to the shooter this year in the IHSA and SIJHSAA games. No one will be in the old inside space closest to the basket.
click on Administrative / By Laws on the top menu in order to check the 10 most often asked By Law questions.
We possibly receive more questions on this topic than any other and here is the answer: THE SIJHSAA SIMPLY HAS NO RULE AGAINST A MEMBER SCHOOL HOLDING TRYOUTS AND PRACTICES IN ANY OR ALL SPORTS WHENEVER THEY SO CHOOSE. See By Law ARTICLE IV, Section 2 .
The SIJHSAA does not prohibit students from participating on non-school sports teams or other sports teams at his/her school. ARTICLE 2, Section 12 of the By Laws. We leave those decisions up to the local member school.
A reminder that in each of our sports, we have a few guidelines listed in the By Laws. Providing there is nothing to the contrary in that listing or in recent mailings/postings, we follow the IHSA rules in most everything. By Laws ARTICLE 16, Section 1
By Laws ARTICLE 28, Section 2 In BASKETBALL it is 14(or less) and 3 tourneys, 16 and 2 tourneys, 18 and 1 tourney or 20 games and no tourneys. The 7th grade team has the same rule.
However, an individual 7th grade player is not restricted to the rule.....He or she is allowed to play the full schedule on both squads if the student's member school allows it.We have no such restrictions in any of the additional sports. There are NO PRACTICE dates in any of our sports.
