SIJHSAA Jim Burnes Leadership Award

The SIJHSAA along with Baysinger Architechts, is pleased to announce the opening of 2018-2019 nominations for the Jim Burnes Leadership Award.

The SIJHSAA is one of two organizations in Illinois that sponsor junior high athletics. The SIJHSAA is made of over 180 schools throughout Southern Illinois and is divided up in to 10 geographical regions.

This award, for 8th graders only, will be based on the following criteria: GPA, sports participation, community activities, specific honors, a typed essay, and recommendations from inside the school and community. Please be sure to look over the criteria and dates that are on the forms.

Each school will get to nominate one person. This person will be nominated by the school athletic director. This person will also be the winner of the leadership award for their school and will receive a certificate from the SIJHSAA proclaiming them the Leadership Award winner from their school. The winner of this award will then proceed on to the regional level where the winner of the regional level will be honored with a plaque and a luncheon honoring their accomplishments.

The 2018-2019 Jim Burnes Leadership Award luncheon will be Friday, May 3rd from 11:00 to 1:00 at Alongi’s in Duquoin.

Rick Franklin Coaching Longevity Award

Dear SIJHSAA Member School AD's:

Beginning with this year, the SIJHSAA will be giving out the Rick Franklin Longevity Award.  The Rick Franklin Longevity Award is an award that recognizes coaches that have been coaching for at least 20 years in the same district.  Schools will be able to honor coaches 5 years retroactive from this year.   (That means coaches that have retired within the last 5 years may be honored) Please check out the criteria to see if your applicant qualifies.  If your applicant meets all of the criteria, fill out the form and follow the instructions on the form.

The award will be sent to the school and the school can decide how they want to present the award.  For example, at halftime of a basketball game or at a school board meeting just to name a couple.  Please realize that after filling out the form, confirming the information, sending it to our trophy provider, and sending it to your school, can take a little time.  So have this in mind when you are giving the award.

Also, the SIJHSAA would like pictures taken of the award presentation and e-mailed to Geff Purcell (geff@americana.com) and Greg Hale (sijhsaa@gmail.com) so we can put them on our website. (Please ID your pictures)
